THIS WEEK'S LESSON

Meryl's lesson for the night is the La Bomba

This lesson will conclude our teaching of New Vogue dances. We've had more people express interest in learning Standard and Latin as a way of increasing their dancing knowledge and capacity. Knowing Standard dancing enables dancing wherever you may travel, or for single dancers, gives the ability to dance with various dance partners.

Starting from June our ongoing lessons will be to teach the steps/figures and the necessary techniques of how to lead and follow in these two styles. Standard being Modern Waltz, Quickstep, Slow Foxtrot, Tango, Viennese, and Latin being Cha Cha, Rumba, Samba and Jive.

For anyone who's going for medals or entering into any level of competition, we've also opened up a 1-hr open floor time just prior to the lesson for personal practice. See details in Overall Information below

THIS WEEK'S DANCE PROGRAM

This Saturday, we have someone celebrating their birthday and she requested two specific dances (see first bracket of the second half). We'll have a quick walk-through demonstration of these these two very simple dances for anyone who doesn't know tehm or is a bit rusty from when they last danced them!

OUR VENUE

What a beautiful space this community hall is! A spacious 24m x 15m dance floorspace (not including the tables) and its festive décor makes it truly much more a ballroom than a hall!

Community + ballroom is what Ballroom Dance Night is about. We, as individuals, have all chosen to dance for various reasons and yet, it's in this gorgeous ballroom, that together we dance, we learn, we laugh, and we share the experience of being a community.  A community of dancers - having fun together - is what Kathleen and Geoff want Ballroom Dance Night to provide for anyone who attends. We warmly welcome you to join us.

THE PROGRAM FORMAT

The 30 dance program is static in that it has the same dances each week but in a different order with two pieces of music per dance. The program is deliberately designed as so to be reliable for attendees to know what dances they can expect. The permanent dances are listed below. Variety to the program is brought through different pieces of music that have been individually timed and phrased to suit each dance. Our commitment is to provide music a harmonious blend of traditional and modern music that evokes nostalgia or memories that generally enhance the connection to how we dance. Different music can sometimes be a challenge for those who are used to hearing the same music, but it can also be an inspiration to up-skill and learn more about dancing.
